The fire shone bright in the evening twilight. Smoke rose above the big pine trees.

I gently placed some wood on the fire. Lots of little embers rose above the crackling flames.

Yesterday we arrived at Smokehouse Bay, Great Barrier Island.

Dad cut manuka wood with his electric saw. Mum rolled out pizza dough and put toppings on it, ready to go into the pizza oven.

Me and Skye played on the big rope swings.

Smokehouse Bay has a big bonfire pit, a smoker, a pizza oven and a shower. The shower is heated by a fire that heats a hot water cylinder which makes hot water.

Ashley entered the Flower Show at the Pakawau Flower Show and she won second place in the intermediate category. This was her entry for the plant section.

Flynn's Story

On Wednesday Marty went to the bay to dig the Septic tank hole.

On Thursday we went to the bay to put the Septic tank in.

When the big boat came it drove straight past.

“What!” said Pop.

Pop rang Dylan to tell him to ring the boat skipper.

Soon Dylan rang back.

“Hello,” said Pop. “Ok, yep, ok, bye."                “Ok,” said Pop. “The boat skipper went straight past  because it is going to drop off the mini digger.”

20 minutes later, the boat came back.

5 minutes later the boat arrived. Me and Sophie were excited to see the big digger.

The digger drove down the ramp.

 Mermaid Pools

As soon as I took one step into the Mermaid Pools, I was in love with the warm and clear water.

I could hear the white wash waves crashing against the slippery, grey rocks. As I sniffed the air, I could smell the salt water and the brown and black seaweed.

I could see my feet through the crystal clear water as I walked deeper and deeper into my favourite swimming place.

I could feel the slippery, soft seaweed as I dived down to look around for treasure on the bottom of the pool.

As I licked my face, I could taste the salt water.

When I'm here I feel great because it feels as good as gold. Wouldn't you want to go?

Lief's Story

Betsy's Story

Leo's Story

So I went to the market to get jam and came out with a dog. Let me explain.

We started to look for the jam and we found it. I was so happy to go home.

But then SOMEONE said, “Are you looking for a pup?”

Mum ran towards the dog and started to beg to get it.

10 minutes later,  it was an argument. Finally it stopped and we got the dog. It was the best.

We decided to name him Bronzie. He is 13 weeks old. He loves his toys  and his favourite toy is a ping pong ball.

He likes to sleep in my bed or on my head.
