Ocean's writing

Come on, I want to go to the beach, " I said.
"Yes, we are getting ready,' said Dad.
I jumped into the dinghy and we started going to shore, the water was clear and I could see the smooth, golden sand on the bottom.
We were at Hot Water Beach. At Hot Water Beach, you dig a big hole at low tide and it fills with hot water. There is hot rock not far down and it is 170 degrees Celsius and comes up through the sand at 60-65 degrees Celsius.
It was rough on the beach, big waves dumped down onto the golden sand.
We went to where the springs were coming up and started digging a big hole. When I stood in the sand too long, I burnt my feet and it really stung.
There were loads of people at the beach digging big holes. So we put salt into the pool because it was so hot. The water was very shallow. We tried digging deeper, but it didn't help.
The water drained out and I got so cold that my hands turned blue. So, we quickly raced back home to get warm.

Ocean's writing

The fire shone bright in the evening twilight. Smoke rose above the big pine trees.

I gently placed some wood on the fire. Lots of little embers rose above the crackling flames.

Yesterday we arrived at Smokehouse Bay, Great Barrier Island.

Dad cut manuka wood with his electric saw. Mum rolled out pizza dough and put toppings on it, ready to go into the pizza oven.

Me and Skye played on the big rope swings.

Smokehouse Bay has a big bonfire pit, a smoker, a pizza oven and a shower. The shower is heated by a fire that heats a hot water cylinder which makes hot water.
