Sea Otters
by Teddy
Sea otters are mammals that
drink their mother's milk. Sea
otters can dive 100 metres
deep. They live in the kelp
forests where they find their
food. They use a tool and it is
called a rock to break off the
kelp eaters. Their food is crabs,
clams and sea urchins.
Sea otters sleep on top of the
water kelp. Before they go to
sleep, they pull up a piece of
seaweed so they don't float
away.
Baby sea otters are called
pups. Baby sea otters can float
on top of the water when they
are one day old. Mother sea
otters leave their pups on top
of the water when they go
diving. They bring their food up
to the top of the water. They
carry some of their food to the
top of the water under their
armpits.
Sea otters were endangered
because people were hunting
them for their skins. Kelp was
dying. Then there was a law
made to hunt no!!more otters,
so the kelp grew back again.
