The moment I saw a trout I picked up my rod. It was a huge rainbow trout by the look of it. It was chasing the whitebait up the river.
So I stood up, picked my rod up from beside me and dropped the line and lure in front of it.
Then I thought to myself, I can’t see the line. So I looked at the top of the rod and it was all tangled. I quickly tried to undo all the knots, but by the time I had finished the line, it was gone. When it was gone, I thought that if we waited a little while we might see it swim past again.
An hour flew past and it didn’t come back. So, we packed up and went down to the river mouth to see if we could get a kahawai instead.
