All about butcher birds
This is a baby butcher bird. You can tell he is a baby because he’s brown and white. When he gets to be an adult he will lose his brown feathers and get black ones.
They get their name from how they eat. It’s really yuck. He will catch something like a lizard and then hang it on a stick. Then he pulls pieces off it with the hook on the end of his beak like a butcher does when he cuts up meat with a knife.
This is what he will look like as an adult. If you look closely you can see the hook on the end of his beak.
My visit to the wetlands
This week I visited the wetlands. It was amazing. There were so many different types of birds there, of all different sizes and colours. The wetland was covered in grasses and lily pads. Some of the birds were swimming in the water, some were standing on the lily pads and some were even nesting in the trees.
My absolute favourite was the comb-crested jacana. He had such long legs and spider-like toes. They were so cool but creepy at the same time.
Ibis or bin chicken as they call them here.
