Baily's Wonderful Rainforest Walk

 My Rainforest Walk.

We drove to Rockhampton where mum’s cousin lives and we went on a rainforest walk. We had to drive to Mount Archer and then you can park at the bottom of the hill. There are lots of different walking tracks you can go on to get to the top. We picked the middle track which was some rainforest and some walking by the road.

When we got to the top it was sooooooo hot we went to the bathroom and got a nice cold drink of water.

We had to decide which way we wanted to walk out to the sky bridge. We chose to go the way where we got to do the bridge first.

I loved the sky bridge. It was amazing to be able to see the city down below. It was like we were in the clouds even though we weren’t.

These are pictures of some termite nests that I saw on the walk up. These are a kind of arboreal termite, which means they live in the trees.

Termites are closely related to cockroaches. They live in big family groups called colonies. Some colonies have 2 million termites in them and can live for up to 50 years.

This termite nest is made from chewed up wood and mud mixed with saliva.

Even though the nest is on the tree, it’s only on the bark so it actually doesn’t hurt the tree at all. They have a little mud tunnel that connects the nest to the ground.
