What are these in the tree?
These might look like leaves but they aren’t.
They are actually bats, flying foxes to be exact.
We went to the Botanic Gardens. When we parked the car we could hear a big noise coming from the trees.
“What’s that noise?” I said to mum. “Is it birds?”
“I’m not too sure,” mum said. “Shall we go have a look?’’
“Yay!” I exclaimed and took off running.
As we got closer to the noise, we started to smell a very weird smell. So we looked up and saw things dangling from the branches. It wasn’t birds at all. It was hundreds of bats.
They were all different sizes. There were mums with babies hanging on them. They were all huddled in groups and some were even flying from branch to branch.
We walked a little bit closer and got some more photos of them closer up.
We found a small little baby bat that must have fallen off its mum. But it was dead already so we couldn’t take it to the rescue place that cares for them.
Seeing the bats was one of the best memories from that day and I’ll remember it forever.
